Teaching Philosophy

Education is not about amassing more books, especially assessment books.  Nor is it about doing more homework & practising more blind-alley writing.

Rather its value lies in training a child to understand what his/her learning needs are & to take control of the situation by being armed with a set of skills.

Thus large groups of students with varying abilities all handling the same material is a formula for failure.  Here is where mass, "one size fits all" teaching-tutoring sessions fall short.

Mrs Lee's style of teaching English stems from a firm belief in this.  What a child needs as a first step to improving his/her command of English is to know that as the writer, he/she is in control of the writing situation.  The nature of the exercise (be it creative writing, comprehension, grammar, vocabulary) is secondary.

This is possible if the student has the necessary skils for expressing ideas & answers.

Thus, early on in her teaching career, Mrs Lee settled on a set of core skills every student of English should have in order to be in control of the learning of English.

What resulted is a set of skills she has developed & tested over more than ten years of teaching.  These have also been tested over many ages & have proven highly effective, even with students in gifted education.

Over the years she has found the answer to why some students sometimes read a lot but still write poorly, or why others speak but do not write well.

Mrs Lee's teaching methodology is NOT a miracle cure.  No method will work if the student won't work.  However if your child is prepared to work hard & to apply her lessons in school, she is more than willing & competent to give him/her that edge.
